Police have traced one of the two missing men who were in a car involved in a fatal crash on the M90 in Fife at the weekend.
Officers launched an investigation to find the pair who were believed to be in a Renault Grand Scenic which crashed on the northbound carriageway shortly after 11pm on Sunday night.
A front seat passenger died at Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital from his injuries after the Scenic hit the central reservation and was struck by a Seat Leon, but Police Scotland revealed they were keen to trace the car’s other two occupants who had seemingly fled the scene.
People living and working in the area were asked to check their outbuildings, while a police helicopter was spotted above the Kelty and Blairadam Forest area as the search continued on Wednesday morning.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland has now confirmed that one of the men has been found safe and well and is now “assisting officers with their enquiries” into the circumstances of the crash.
One other person who is thought to have been in the car at the time has still to be traced, and Police Scotland say they are still interested to hear from anyone who was driving on the M90 in that area around that time, and in particular from anyone with dashcam footage.
