Staff at a popular Fife restaurant are awaiting the results of Covid-19 tests after one employee tested positive for the virus.

The Bonnybank Inn, in the small village of Bonnybank just outside Kennoway, closed its doors as a precaution on Friday evening after learning that one of its kitchen team had received notification of a positive test.

The staff member had not been in the tex-mex restaurant for a week, and none of the other employees are understood to have been showing any symptoms.

However, management opted to close the restaurant pending the outcome of further tests as per coronavirus guidance.

In a statement posted on social media on Friday, the restaurant’s management said: “As everyone who has visited the Bonnybank Inn knows, we take everyone’s safety as the utmost priority, so with this in mind, we have to announce that we will be closing this evening.

“We have tried our very best over the last few months with face masks, visors, temperature checks, cleaning stations, regular washing hands and much much more.

“We know you will be concerned if you have recently visited, but please do know that we will be in touch as soon as possible with more information.

“All our team are at present booking their tests and hoping to have their results back within 24 hours, we will then be looking to reopen.”

Contact tracing is now under way to ensure that anyone who may have come into contact with the affected employee is notified and should self-isolate and book a test.
