A man is still being treated for serious head injuries after he was viciously attacked in Kirkcaldy at the weekend.
The 24-year-old was taken to the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh following the incident in Arran Crescent in the early hours of Saturday.
The assault is thought to have involved a number of people but police said rumours that a firearm had been used were not correct.
There is also no suggestion the victim was stabbed.
Part of Arran Crescent, near the junction with Lismore Avenue in the Templehall area of Kirkcaldy, was cordoned off for much of Saturday as officers conducted enquiries.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police in Fife are investigating following a serious assault in Kirkcaldy.
“The incident happened around 12.20am on Saturday April 14 in Arran Crescent.
“A 24-year-old man sustained injuries to his head during the attack and was taken to the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, where he continues to be treated.
“Inquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible and anyone with information is asked to contact Kirkcaldy CID via 101 and quote incident number 096 of April 14.
“Alternatively, an anonymous report can be made to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
