Pensioner in hospital after being struck by lorry

A woman has been taken to hospital after being struck by a heavy goods vehicle on a busy St Andrews road.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Bell Street at around 3.20pm today after reports a 72-year-old had been injured.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were also in attendance and had three appliances on scene.

A heavy rescue unit was also tasked to attend.

The road is closed in both directions and Police Scotland are asking members of the public to avoid the area where possible.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman added: “We received a call at 3.23pm to attend an incident on Bell Street in St Andrews.

“We dispatched our trauma team and two ambulances to the scene.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Fife were called to Bell Street in St Andrews around 3.20pm on Monday, July 23 following a serious collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian.

“A 72-year-old woman is being taken to Ninewells Hospital and emergency services remain at the scene.

“The road is currently closed in both directions and the public are asked to avoid the area, where possible.

“Anyone who may have witnessed this and has not yet spoken to officers is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 as soon as possible, quoting incident number 2473 of July 23.”
