Deliberate fireraising continues to be a problem across Levenmouth with a recent spike in incidents.
Police said local youths were behind fires in Letham Glen, Bawbee Bridge, Cameron Bridge and Windygates reported over the last six weeks.
They have urged parents to “know where their children are” and talk to them about fire safety.
Rubbish, buckets and wheelie bins have been targeted in incidents described by police as “incredibly dangerous” both for the perpetrators and the general public.
Sergeant Craig Fyall said: “It is clear theses fire are deliberate and have been occurring in areas where large groups of youths congregate, steal and then set fire to buckets and debris to keep warm.
“Our colleagues in the fire service are then called out to extinguish the fire.
“This type of behaviour is fraught with danger as it is likely that someone will be seriously injured or the fire will spread.”
Earlier this year, The Courier reported that deliberate fireraising across Levenmouth had reached shocking new levels.
Vandals started more than four blazes every week of 2017/18, adding up to 207 in total – up from 143 the previous year.
This year fire fighters have visited every school in Levenmouth in an attempt to educate youngsters about the dangers of fireraising.
Sergeant Fyall said police would be continuing this work.
He added: “To address the issue there will be increased patrols in the areas and engagement with schools to educate youths with regard to the danger of setting fire deliberately.
“I’d like to appeal directly to parents and guardians to ensure that they know where their children are, when going out and to warn them of the consequences of fire.”
