A woman is in a “critical” condition in hospital after suffering a head injury caused by the sudden braking of a bus in a Fife village.
Police are seeking seven witnesses to the incident, which took place on the 64 Moffat and Williamson bus at noon on Monday, April 8 on the B936, or East End, in Freuchie.
An 81-year-old woman was taken to Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital after falling forward and hitting her head when the vehicle braked sharply on the road to avoid a collision.
She is in a “critical condition”.
Officers are now hoping to track down witnesses to the incident, including seven “unidentified” bus passengers.
East End was closed until late on Monday as police investigated the incident.
Officers were stationed at either end of the road, which leads from the A92 into the heart of Freuchie, allowing only locals through the cordon.
Traffic was being diverted through High Street as the bus remained in the middle of the residential street.
Sergeant Ewan Pearce of Fife’s Road Policing Unit said: “Sadly this incident has resulted in an elderly lady being seriously injured and we are eager to establish the full circumstances that occurred beforehand.
“I would ask anyone who was in Freuchie’s East End at lunchtime on Monday, April 8, and saw this incident to please contact police.

“I would also directly appeal to anyone who was on the bus to get in touch, particularly seven unidentified passengers who were on the number 64 Moffat and Williamson bus who have not made contact with police.
“Your information may be vital to our investigation and I would urge to get in touch with police at your earliest convenience.”
