Olly Murs to play Dundee’s Slessor Gardens

One of the UK’s most popular solo artists, will play Dundee’s Slessor Gardens in the summer.

Ivor Novello winner and multiple Brit award nominee Olly Murs will perform at the city’s new outdoor concert venue on Thursday July 20.

The 2006 X Factor runner up will bring 2015 show winner Louisa Johnson as his support act.

Tickets for the show will go on sale on Friday at 9am.

 

The singer, who also worked as a presenter on the talent show, last played in the city in 2011 in the Caird Hall and has gone on to have a string of number one hits including Troublemaker, Heart Skips and Beat and Dance With Me Tonight.

He said: “I am thrilled to play outdoors at the Slessor Gardens in Dundee. I love performing in Scotland; the audiences are always so receptive and fun. It’s going to be an amazing gig.”

After Murs’ appearance on the X Factor, he has experienced huge success with four multi-platinum albums including four UK number one singles.

He is the X Factor’s most successful solo artist ever.

Winner of the 12th season of the X Factor in 2015, Louisa Johnson, will be the supporting act.

The news rides on the back of a wave of excitement sweeping across the city after one of the world’s biggest girl bands, Little Mix, announced they would play the same venue this summer, as well as reggae pop legends UB40.

The Little Mix concert, set for June 29, sold out within 15 minutes when tickets went on sale on January 20.

Within hours, second-hand tickets were being touted online for up to 450% of the original price, meaning some were being advertised for as much as £187.

General Sale for Murs’ show will open on Friday February 17 at 9am with tickets, which are all standing, priced at £39.50 and £55.00.
