A scarecrow made by Dundee nursery children for Broughty Ferry Gala week has been returned to its home 48 hours after being stolen.

Balgillo nursery manager Caroline Mcdiarmid said she was “so happy” to find “Jack” back in his place on Fisher Street, where he forms part of a scarecrow trail.

Jack, who was made by four-year-old children, went missing on Saturday and a social media campaign to have him returned was launched.

His photo was shared on Facebook numerous times, and the missing scarecrow was finally returned on Monday.

Caroline said: “I received a phone call to say Jack has been put back in his place on Fisher Street.

“He is back where he belongs and we are so happy.”

It is not known who took Jack or why.

Jack’s mystery aside, thousands of people attended the first day of Broughty Ferry Gala Week on Sunday, and the fun continued yesterday with the sand sculpture competition on Broughty Ferry beach.

There was also a pavement art competition outside Marks and Spencer on Brook Street.

For older visitors, there was also a quiz night in The Fort while The Royal Arch hosted its own version of Blind Date.

Today there will be a buried treasure hunt on the beach and guided tour of historic Broughty Ferry.

There will also be a Disney princess and Superhero-themed singalong for children in St Stephen’s Church.

In addition, there will  be a prize domino night at The Fort and another quiz at The Royal Arch.
