Scotland’s largest children’s gala will go ahead online this year, offering fun despite the lockdown.
Dunfermline Children’s Gala, which at one time was paid for by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, usually attracts more than 3,000 youngsters who parade through the town to Pittencrieff Park.
While this year’s gathering, planned for June 27, was cancelled organisers were determined children would not miss out entirely and have decided everyone should come together on a virtual basis to celebrate the day.
They have asked families in Dunfermline, Townhill and Rosyth to recreate the gala day feeling at home by decorating their gardens and windows with bunting.
Other suggestions include dressing up in fabulous costumes and having a picnic in the living room or garden, organising traditional races at home and creating afternoon entertainment such as dancing, karaoke and games.
Those taking part have been asked to share their photos on the gala Facebook and Twitter pages.
Gala chairman Gary Love said there had been a huge amount of disappointment when the gala was cancelled.
“We hope people will enjoy taking part in some or all of the activities and that they will help to lift spirits and remind us that the current very difficult times will eventually pass,” he said.
