A Fife man caught driving without any licence was chased into a public park and found hiding in bushes.

When the car being driven by Ryan Knowles was searched police found an axe and a bladed tool.

At Dunfermline Sheriff Court, Knowles, 23, of Alexander Place, Rosyth, admitted that on April 7 in Boglily Road, Kirkcaldy, he drove a car without being holder of a licence and drove without insurance.

Knowles also admitted that he was in possession of an axe and a bladed tool in the car.

Depute fiscal Gary McMullan said police officers had cause to stop the vehicle being driven by Knowles.

He was pulled over to the side of the road and when the car stopped Knowles made a ran for it into Beveridge Park.

Officers pursued and found Knowles hiding in bushes. After carrying out checks they discovered he was subject to two outstanding warrants.

The vehicle was seized by police and a search carried out which found the axe next to the driver’s seat and a bladed tool in the pocket of the driver’s door.

The court was told Knowles had never held any driving licence, even a provisional one.

Defence solicitor Roshni Joshi said he given no explanation for his actions, adding, “There’s very little he can advise me which would be of help to the court.”

Knowles had also breached a community payback order failing to do any of the 50 hours of unpaid work imposed. He had “buried his head in the sand” over the order, said Ms Joshi.

Sheriff Craig McSherry jailed Knowles for 12 months and imposed a six-month driving ban.
