Community cash from wind farm offered up to local causes

Wind turbines are blowing cash towards local communities.

Groups in the Cowdenbeath, Crossgates, Mossgreen and Hill of Beath areas are invited to apply to the first round of the Mossmorran Wind Farm Limited community fund.

Managed by Foundation Scotland, the fund will support groups providing activities or services locally.

It is provided by the owner and operator of two of the wind turbines at Mossmorran, and will offer up to £14,000 in its first year, rising in line with inflation for the operating life of the wind farm.

Emma Miller from Hill of Beath Community Council said: “It’s great to see companies like the owner of Mossmorran Wind Farm giving back to communities like this.

“We are really excited to have a local community fund that can give a boost to the efforts of community groups that work so hard throughout the year to provide a range of activities, events and services for many different people across the community.

“Most of the groups are themselves led by volunteers so hopefully the straightforward application process will encourage groups to apply.”

Groups working in the area should apply before the first deadline of July 15.

The foundation will work with a panel of local people to help them decide how funds should be allocated, using its grant-making expertise to ensure there is a positive long lasting impact.

There are currently three vacancies for residents to join the decision-making panel.

Anyone interested in getting involved can find the nomination form at www.foundationscotland.org.uk/mossmorran.
