ExxonMobil’s planned maintenance has started at Mossmorran.
The work was due to start on Monday but was delayed as Fife Ethylene Plant staff worked out ways to minimise the associated flaring to lessen the impact on the local community.
ExxonMobil Chemical plant manager Jacob McAlister has told the community that the maintenance was under way and an elevated flare would be in operation.

Work could take up to five days.
“The actions we have taken have achieved a reduced flare volume and our team will now work round the clock to complete the work safely and as quickly as possible.
“As we have always indicated, we strive to avoid the use of flaring, but there is a need to do so on this occasion.
“We apologise to anyone concerned by the flaring and thank our local communities for their patience and understanding,” he said.
The company has pledged to continue to provide updates as the work progresses.
