The organisers of one of Perthshire’s biggest highland games are asking for local people to play their part in ensuring the success of this year’s event.

Crieff Highland Gathering has put out a call for volunteers who are willing to help promote and support the town’s big day on Sunday August 21.

“Last year saw the very successful launch of the ‘gamesmakers’ where over 70 people from in and around Crieff and Strathearn volunteered to help our Crieff Games be the great success it was for the 6,000 people who joined us on the day,” said a spokesperson for the event.

“This year we are all keen to build on that success and are looking for both new and returning gamesmakers.

“A gamesmaker will be a happy and outgoing person willing to help promote the Crieff Highland Gathering in the days leading up to August 21 and then on the day itself help visitors and locals enjoy the day to the full.

“From the kilt runners descending on the park first thing in the morning, followed by the grand march of the pipe bands through the town, gamesmakers will be there – directing visitors, guiding runners, answering questions and making a day the whole town can be truly proud of.

“If you would like to do your bit for the good of the town and the Crieff Highland Gathering in particular you will be asked to come along to an initial meeting at the Strathearn Campus at 7pm on July 20 when you will be introduced to the plan for the gamesmakers. We will aim to try and have as many volunteers as possible and will be happy to talk to anyone over the age of 15.”

Volunteers will need to be able to attend Crieff Market Park for an hour one evening to be confirmed on the week running up to the big day where they will be given their task for the day and introduced to other team members.

Gamesmakers will have free entry to Crieff Highland Gathering on the day in return for giving up three hours of their time and then be left free to enjoy the remainder of the day within the market park.

Volunteers should attend the July 20 meeting or email secretary@crieffhighlandgathering.com with their name, age (if 15 to 18), email address and contact telephone number.
