A Twitter spat over perceived bias at the Scottish politician of the year awards has escalated after one of Labour’s highest profile MSPs branded Pete Wishart “wee rat pish”.
Ruth Davidson, the Scottish Conservatives leader, took the main prize at Thursday night’s annual awards bash.
Meanwhile, her colleague David Mundell, the Scottish Secretary and the sole Tory MP north of the border, won the Best Scot at Westminster title.
Despite their dominance on the Scottish political scene, the SNP took home just one of the ten awards on offer — rural economy secretary Fergus Ewing who won the Politics in Business award.
Perthshire MP Pete Wishart was quick to tweet on the issue — but was shot down by Neil Findlay, who responded: ‘”Wee rat pish” at his gracious best!’.

Mr Wishart branded the riposte “quality abuse”.

Twitter users were quick to turn the tables, posting a number of anagrams of Neil Findlay’s name.

On his website, Neil Findlay declares himself to be “a different kind of politician”.
Despite strong trade union support, he came second to Jim Murphy in the race to become Scottish Labour leader in 2014.
