Racegoers have been advised not to turn up without a ticket for a near-sell-out Perth race meeting taking place at the weekend.
Those going to the Summer Carnival at Perth Racecourse on Saturday have also been told to plan their journey ahead of possible congestion on surrounding roads.
Staff at the racecourse stress the event looks set to be a sell-out with a capacity crowd of 10,000 and only 200 briefs left for the centre course area of the venue.
Hazel Peplinski, chief executive at Perth Racecourse, said: “Because our summer carnival is on a Saturday, we tend to attract our biggest crowd of the year and this year has been no exception with an unprecedented demand for tickets to the extent we are sold out in advance of the event which is fantastic.
“However, I would like to stress the importance of allowing plenty of time to plan your journey and not to turn up without a ticket because we have already reached our capacity. Fortunately the weekend forecast at this stage suggests Saturday shall be a fair day and quite warm – suitable for a summer carnival.”
Crowds will be entertained by magicians, carnival stilt walkers and music from tribute act UB40 Homegrown.
Gates open at 11.30am which is a full two and a half hours in advance of the first race. And racegoers are being encouraged to head for the course early to avoid traffic congestion and to allow sufficient time to access the racecourse.
The first race is scheduled for 2pm and the last race should take place at 5.25pm.
