The imminent relaunch of Perth Theatre has triggered a jobs bonanza.

Horsecross Arts is appealing for “star performers” to work behind the scenes at the new look venue, which is on schedule to open its doors in October.

The creative organisation, which is in charge of both the theatre and Perth Concert Hall, will hold a recruitment fair and open day later this month.

Bosses want to take on about 50 staff for a range of roles in various departments, including technical, catering, front of house and box office.

There will be crossover of staff between the two venues.

A spokeswoman for Horsecross said: “This is an opportunity for anybody who is interested in working at these venues to find out more about the organisation and the jobs on offer, and meet existing staff members in a relaxed and friendly environment.”

Meanwhile, the company is also looking for young performers to star in this year’s pantomime, which will be the first major show at the new theatre.

Horsecross is looking for three teams of volunteers, six people per team, aged between nine and 13-years-old. The teams will alternate performances throughout the panto run.

Rehearsals will be held throughout November, ahead of opening night on December 8.

Auditions for young panto stars will be held at the concert hall on September 23.

The £16.6 million revamp of Perth Theatre got under way in March, last year.

The venue, which is one of the oldest of its kind in Scotland, has been part of Perth for more than a century.

The B-listed Edwardian auditorium is being restored to its former glory and a new 200 seat studio theatre has also been created.

The newly transformed venue will have increased workshop spaces for creative learning and community projects.

The High Street entrance to the building is being retained, while a new frontage created on Mill Street aims to improve access.

The multi award-winning Horsecross has held an Investors In People accreditation since 2007, and was recently re-accredited to 2020. Its recruitment fair runs from 3pm to 7pm on Wednesday, August 30.
