Perth death probe: Neighbours report ‘almighty row’ before man, 22, stabbed

Neighbours heard an “almighty row” shortly before a young man was found fatally injured at a Perth block of flats.

A probe is under way after the 22-year-old, named locally as Barry Dixon, died from stab wound injuries at Ninewells Hospital.

The former Braeview Academy student was discovered soaked in blood at a top floor flat in the city’s Wallace Court in the early hours of Tuesday.

Police Scotland confirmed a woman, 23, and a 21-year-old man had been arrested in connection with his death.

The property was sealed off by officers as part of a major investigation involving several locations throughout the city.

One neighbour said: “There’s a lot of comings and goings from that flat on the top floor.

“Late on Monday night, I could hear lots of screaming and shouting,” she said. “I didn’t think too much of it at the time, because you hear a lot of noise from upstairs.

“But this was an almighty row. I could hear a man and a woman’s voice and they were really going at one another.”

She said: “At one point, there were people standing in the street and shouting up to the flat. I saw someone throw something to the upstairs window, but I couldn’t see what it was.”

Another resident said: “There were so many police first thing in the morning. There were a lot of cars out on the streets and officers round the back of the block.

“I’d never seen so many police in one place.”

Detective Inspector Gary Winter, of the Major Investigation team, said: “Our thoughts at this time are very much with this young man’s family and friends.

“Inquiries are at an early stage, but I would like to reassure the local community that this appears to be contained incident with no threat to the wider public.

“There will continue to be police presence at the scene and other addresses in the city whilst we continue to investigate this man’s death.”

DI Winter appealed for anyone who heard anything suspicious in the Wallace Court area in the early hours of Tuesday to get in touch.

It is the second major police probe at the 27-property block in less than two years.

In late December 2017, Polish national Rafal Rymarkiewicz was knifed to death there. His killer Jacub Kmieciak, who pled guilty to a charge of culpable homicide, is due to be sentenced next week.
