Clyde 1 Arbroath 2: Lichties are on high ahead of vital clash

Ricky Little reckons his winner has set the Red Lichties up for this weekend’s vital clash with Forfar.

Having gone ahead through Colin Hamilton’s scrambled effort on 26 minutes, Arbroath had to battle all the way against fellow promotion chasers Clyde.

The visitors were pegged back midway through the second half when Little misjudged the flight of a cross from Ewan McNeil, and Peter MacDonald nodded in.

Clyde looked the more likely to go on and win, but the game turned Arbroath’s way when Ryan Finnie picked up two needless yellow cards in a minute before Little headed his side back in front with 18 minutes left.

The centre back said: “After losing to Annan last weekend we needed a win, and we got one.

“We have Forfar next week and it is a big game.

“We know the title is theirs to lose so it was important to win this one ahead of that game to keep the points gap as small as possible.

“The Annan game hurt us as we had chances to win, but we moved on from it and got this win. Confidence is high and we will go out and look to win next weekend.

“Forfar are flying and they have not lost many games since we beat them in the last meeting.”

Arbroath boss Dick Campbell said: “I was a bit concerned that at 1-1 we would not get what we deserved from the game.

“However, we came back and dominated the closing stages.

“Clyde are a big club so winning here is a big result.”
