Ian Murray hopes to welcome back three Raith Rovers stars for Dundee trip and gives Tom Lang update

Ian Murray set out a rough timeline for the return of Tom Lang.
Ian Murray set out a rough timeline for the return of Tom Lang.

Raith Rovers hope to welcome back defender Ryan Nolan to the squad for the match versus Dundee this weekend.

The Irishman hasn’t featured since the defeat to Queen’s Park last month due to injury.

Ian Murray also hopes to welcome back Jamie Gullan and Ethan Ross though they will be assessed after training on Friday.

Rovers are unbeaten in four, winning three of those, and travel to take on a Dundee side fresh from a comeback victory over Partick Thistle.

The week before Raith took on a Hamilton side that had overcome a three-goal deficit at home to Cove Rangers to snatch a point.

Players returning

“Ryan Nolan has trained a lot this week,” said Murray.

“So barring any issues overnight and tomorrow he’ll be back in the squad.

Ryan Nolan should make his return to the squad.

“The back four have done tremendously well so Ryan knows he’s got a place to try and win back now.

“Ethan Ross and Hammer [Jamie Gullan] will train tomorrow but that will be their first football action, so we’ll need to check on them.

“The most important thing is we’ve not picked up anything else.”

Ross and Gullan will also face competition to regain their spots with Murray recently expressing his delight at the goals are shared around – as much as he’d like a 20-goal striker.

Lang update

The last meeting between these sides saw Dundee run out 1-0 winners at Stark’s Park.

That was the second game of the season when Murray was still building his squad.

The side is now more settled following a formation change, especially the defence.

That area of the side could be bolstered further by the return of Tom Lang.

Lang hasn’t played since last season.

The central defender hasn’t featured since April with a knee injury.

“He’s joined in a bit of light stuff on the pitch this week – he’ll do more next week and more the following week,” said the Rovers boss.

“If we are putting a timeline on it, you’re probably talking now for Thomas to be match ready and back in the squad, we are hopeful, by the end of November.

“He’s looking strong, he’s had no ill effects, but it’s light and non-contact work with the player.

“It’s great to see him back on the pitch with us.”
