Dunfermline boss James McPake explains why he ‘has a lot of time’ for Jim Duffy ahead of ‘troubling’ game

James McPake has praised the “vastly experienced” Jim Duffy for the help he has given young managers in the game.

The former Dundee player and manager was recently appointed as Clyde boss and will take charge for the first time at East End Park on Saturday.

Danny Lennon left the club after a run of 10 consecutive league defeats.

They went on to lose their next match, last weekend at home to Airdrieonians, before Duffy’s appointment.

It is the second time he has taken charge of Clyde during his more than four decades in the game.

Helpful

“He’s vastly experienced,” said McPake.

“I’ve a lot of time for Jim, he’s been really helpful to young managers.

“Which again is good when you’re on this side and you are young and there are people with that experience.

“He was [Dave Mackay’s] manager 20 years ago at Dundee.

“He’s back in and he’ll be looking to put his stamp on the Clyde team tomorrow, but we just need to concentrate on the performance on the pitch for us.”

The Dunfermline manager is wary of the immediate challenge ahead.

He expects his side to have more of the ball this week than last – by design, after choosing to let Falkirk have the ball last weekend.

“It’s a really troubling game – they’ve lost their last 11, which doesn’t sit very well with me either,” said McPake.

“They’re going to win at some point, that’s the way football is.

“Jim will be looking to do that tomorrow. So we need to make sure we’re ready.”

Team news

Only strikers Kevin O’Hara and Lewis McCann remain on the sidelines.

Josh Edwards has recovered after he picked up knock while Rhys Breen has come through training fine this week.

“Josh was sore for a couple of days with his back but he’s back training now,” said the Pars boss.

“Breeny is fine, Breeny’s been great actually – full training now.

“Credit to him as well, he came in and trained all week with a hamstring [issue] which was a bit of a risk from us.

“But when he speaks in that big voice and tells you he’s OK, you just listen to him. He’s back training fully.”
