Options starting to increase for Forfar boss Jim Weir

Dale Hilson is set to make his Forfar debut against Raith Rovers this afternoon – but only from the bench.

With the former Dundee United striker’s arrival, and a couple of players soon to return from injury, manager Jim Weir is starting to get more selection options.

And there could be plenty of wheeling and dealing in the transfer market before the January window closes.

“The number of people coming in will depend on the number of people going out,” said Weir.

“We’re working on a few things just now.

“Dale will be on the bench tomorrow and hopefully we can get him half-an-hour on the pitch.

“Scott McBride is back in training and could be in the squad and we’re hoping Murray MacKintosh will train next week.”

Forfar’s away win at Ayr United recently was one of the shock results of the season. Defeating Raith at Stark’s Park – where Barry Smith’s men haven’t dropped a point in the league – would arguably be even more impressive.

“The Ayr United win was an incredible result,” said Weir.

“It showed real character. I thought the players showed it again against Arbroath earlier in the week.

“We stared really well and missed a great chance to get the first goal. In the second half it was pretty even and we had one cleared off the line.

“Going to play Raith away is probably on a par with going to Ayr. There’s not a great deal between those two teams. Obviously, Raith’s home form is excellent.

“We’ve been competitive in the last couple of matches and we need to make sure that is always the case. It would be nice to get the first goal so that the opposition is chasing the game.

“We’ve got a big few weeks ahead of us and we’re looking to put a run together. When I’ve got players fit, I’m convinced we can do that.”
