Dundee’s Kevin Holt says team have point or two to prove this season

Kevin Holt is hoping the Dundee players can show this season that they are far from being just a “two-man” team.

The duo in question are his former team-mates, Kane Hemmings and Greg Stewart, who have moved on to pastures new this summer with the former being snapped up by Oxford United and the latter now playing at Birmingham City.

The pair contributed almost 40 goals between them for Dundee last season but Holt insists that instead of lamenting their loss, it is important to accentuate the positives and to give as much help as possible to the new strikers at the club such as Faissal El Bakhtaoui who was playing last season in League One for Dunfermline.

Holt, who helped his side to a deserved draw at Motherwell on Saturday, said: “I know it’s hard to make the step up.

“It’s not as easy as people may say or people may think. You have to work for it. Nobody is going to hand you goals but they will come for Faissal.

“He’s working hard and looking sharp and if the rest of the team can help him until he gets his feet on the ground he will score for us.

“Kane and Greg are two great players. They proved that last season with something like 40 goals between them plus assists

“It’s not easy to replace them but the manager has done well with the players he has brought in.

“Hopefully we can show we were not just a two-man team last season and we can go on to have a good campaign – or even better.”

Meanwhile, Dundee boss Paul Hartley is still waiting for a decision from in-demand former Motherwell player Tom Hateley.

The Dark Blues have made him an offer but he has interest from elsewhere both here and down south and is weighing up his options.

However, the Dens manager wants an answer before the window shuts with Hartley determined to bring in at least another two players before Wednesday if possible.
