EXCLUSIVE: Gary Bowyer will let Shaun Byrne leave Dundee

Shaun Byrne has been told he can leave Dundee.

Courier Sport understands that the fans’ favourite is available for transfer – either on a loan or a permanent deal.

Manager Gary Bowyer is overloaded with central midfielders and recently signed Joe Grayson on loan.

He is looking to free up funds to recruit in other areas before the transfer window shuts next week.

The 29-year-old was one of the Dark Blues’ best performers in the Premiership last season and allowing him to leave will prove to be a controversial decision amongst supporters.

Byrne has two years left on a contract extension he signed in January and is likely to have suitors from the top flight as well as the English lower leagues.

The Fifer started out in Celtic’s youth academy before clocking up over 100 appearances for Dunfermline.

Byrne helped Livingston into the Premiership and repeated that achievement with Dundee.

And there was no hint that he might not be in Bowyer’s plans when he started all the Premier Sports Cup group games and the first two league matches, before coming off injured against Raith Rovers.
