Dundee have been linked with a loan move for young West ham United defender Josh Pask.

The 20-year-old centre-back has previously been farmed out to Gillingham and has impressed in the Hammers’ under-23 side.

Meanwhile, an up-and-coming centre-back already at Dens Park, Dan Jefferies, is hoping to get more first team action under his belt this season.

The Swansea academy product joined the Dark Blues in January after parting company with Colchester United.

The 19-year-old featured for the first team in the final two home games of last season – and now he’s got the taste for it.

“I loved every second of it,” said Jefferies.

“I’m buzzing to have played for the first team and hopefully I can get more chances this season.

“I think I’m ready to make the step-up.

“I’m always learning from the players in front of me. They are always helping me.

“In training if you make a mistake they don’t really get on to you. They encourage more than anything.

“Because I’m young I look up to the likes of Steven Caulker, Darren O’Dea, Josh Meekings and Gense (Kusunga). They’ve got some amount of experience. I hope they can share it with me and that I can move on with them.

“If I do get a chance this year I’ll give my all, and I think I’m ready for it. I’ll definitely take it with both hands and I won’t look back.”

Jefferies believes he has the right manager in Neil McCann to bring out the best in him.

He added: “I love it here. The manager definitely gives young players a chance if he thinks they deserve it. He believes in the youngsters and I’m very grateful for the chance I got last season. Hopefully I can get more this year.

“We (the reserves) play the same way as the first team. It’s all the same at Dundee but it’s older players with experience and you have to put yourself about.”
