New Dundee United owner Mark Ogren – ‘We will NOT merge with Dundee on my watch’

New Dundee United owner Mark Ogren met the media for the first time today and immediately dealt with the subject of a merger with city rivals Dundee in definitive terms.

And the message from the Minnesota millionaire was an emphatic one – not on my watch.

The fact both Dundee clubs are now owned by Americans and share proposals over the road at Dens that would give Texan-based Tim Keyes the final say on matters such as merger, has seen the debate surface again over the past few days.

When he first took over at United last month, Ogren said it was not on the agenda.

And, now he’s actually arrived at Tannadice in person, he was happy to deal with it again.

“Everybody else keeps raising that but it’s not going to happen. Not while I’m owner,” was how he put it.

Ogren’s vision for the Tangerines is to get them back to the days when they were not just riding high in the Premiership, but also playing regularly on the European stage.

That’s the main reason he and his son, Scott, have invested their cash at Tannadice.
