The Courier has produced a special souvenir book to mark 30 years since Dundee United reached the UEFA Cup final.

Here’s our guide to what you’ll find in the book, and how you can secure your copy.

What’s it all about?

Thirty years ago, a Dundee United side led by legendary manager Jim McLean upset all the odds by reaching the UEFA Cup final.

The Tangerine Terrors humbled some of world football’s biggest stars on the way to reaching the final.

As the local newspaper, The Courier was there every step of the way.

Now, 30 years on, we have opened our archives to bring you the remarkable story exactly as it was reported.

Tell me about the book

The book is compiled from The Courier’s in-depth coverage across the whole season.

We’ve scanned the pages to bring you the feel of what it was like to be a Dundee United fan in the 1980s reading about the team’s latest news in the morning paper.

The book tells the story from the club's and the fans' side as the remarkable run to the final progressed.
The book tells the story from the club’s and the fans’ side as the remarkable run to the final progressed.

It contains all the build-up, match previews, match reports and photos. But there is also a wealth of behind-the-scenes content: the stories of the fans who travelled to the away games, the mascots, the foreign fans being welcomed in Dundee.

There are also full reproductions of extremely rare exclusive interviews from the time with McLean, his wife Doris, and the club’s then chairman George Fox.

There’s also a new foreword by former club captain Paul Hegarty as he recalls how United’s fans were hailed as the best in Europe.

It’s a 152-page hardback book that would make a great keepsake for any United fan young or old.
