Scoring the first goal could be the key to turning Brechin City’s fortunes around, according to manager Darren Dods.
It’s a habit the Glebe Park men haven’t been able to get into and constantly chasing a game has proved to be too big a hurdle for the Championship’s basement side.
“The last time we did it was against Dumbarton (in mid-September),” he recalled.
“Getting that first goal for a change would give us something to hold on to and make us less susceptible to being picked off when we’re having to dig ourselves out of a hole.”
Brechin’s 3-2 defeat to Livingston last week was their fourth one-goal loss in a row and backs up Dods’ belief that the gulf between them and their opponents isn’t a big one.
He said: “There are spells in games when we’ve been punished for mistakes but we’ve been right in the game at the end of most of them.”
Brechin are at home to Dumbarton today – a realistic opportunity to get their first victory.
Dods added: “I’d give us a chance against anyone in the league at home.
“We know that if we win this one it would bring Dumbarton back closer to us and possibly Falkirk as well.”
