Montrose boss Paul Hegarty will be without three key players for their League 2 opener this afternoon against Barry Ferguson’s Clyde outfit.

The Links Park manager was already resigned to being without injury victims Michael Bolochoweckyj and his son Chris but he will also be denied the services of Terry Masson, who is suspended.

However, Hegarty is determined that his men will start with a win having registered a morale-boosting 3-0 victory earlier this week against East Stirlingshire in the Challenge Cup.

The manager said: “Michael will definitely miss out with his ankle ligament problem while my son Chris will be absent for several months because of a ruptured Achilles.

“It is disappointing to lose two such experienced campaigners.

“We will also be missing Terry Masson for the Clyde game as he is suspended.

“However, on the plus side, new signing Iain Campbell came in and did well in the win over East Stirling on Tuesday night.

“He had a hernia op earlier this summer but has been with us for about five weeks now and has worked his way back to near full fitness.

“Iain is a good type to have about the club.

Hegarty added: “The win over East Stirling was a much-needed boost. I had been pleased with the displays against Ross County, Raith Rovers and Alloa but we were really disappointing in defeat to Cove Rangers.

“The players had been warned beforehand about their threat and while it is early days, I had to speak to them in no uncertain terms afterwards.

“Thankfully, we had the right response against East Stirling ahead of what will be a tough game at Clyde.

“Barry has put together a very experienced squad with the likes of Peter MacDonald and Sean Higgins.

“Once again this season, consistency will be key and hopefully we can get off on the right note.”
