St Johnstone’s ‘Miracle Man’ Murray Davidson on the way back from injury

“Miracle Man” Murray Davidson has defied medical science again and should be back in a St Johnstone shirt sooner than expected.

The Perth midfielder, who fractured a bone in his ankle in the pre-match warm-up at Ibrox a few weeks ago, is unlikely to be risked against Ross County at the weekend but should be available for selection thereafter.

And Saints manager Tommy Wright paid tribute to the powers of Davidson’s positive thinking, now that it looks like he will be continuing his habit of short-cutting his way back into action.

“Murray is doing his Miracle Man thing again,” reported Wright. “He’s unbelievable.

“He told us he would be back much sooner than the doctors had said.

“When he got the results he did say ‘don’t listen to them, I’ll be back much quicker’ – and he’s right again.

“You can’t knock his positive attitude. It’s great. But we have to look after him as well.

“If we needed him for this weekend and were desperate he could play at a push.

“But we’re going to leave him because it would be a risk to face Ross County.

“He will definitely be ready for Inverness though.

“This week he’ll do some more training with the physio then step it up ahead of the Inverness game.”

Saints have a new physio. And Wright is hoping that Tony Tompos’s fresh set of eyes looking at Chris Millar’s recurring muscle problems may help bring to an end the stop-start nature of his season.

Wright said: “Chris’s hamstring has settled down but with his previous problems and his age, it will still be a few weeks.

“He’s pretty low but there’s nothing he can do, he has to do the rehab and get back fit again.

“We have looked at every conceivable thing that could be causing it but it has kept on happening.

“This one is slightly different because it’s his hamstring but it’s still a muscle injury.

“We have a new physio now and maybe a different approach might help him.

“He was getting good medical treatment in the past but maybe a new set of eyes could make a difference.”

“Scott moved on to another job so we have brought Tony in.

“He’s got good experience from clubs down south.”

Summer signing Keith Watson is making good progress on the comeback trail.

“Keith played 45 minutes for the under-20s last week and will play an hour this week,” Wright said.

“He hasn’t had a reaction so that’s good news and we’re looking forward to having him back playing again.”
