Eve Muirhead came within a shot of making it a winning start to her 2016/17 curling season in Canada.
The Perthshire Olympian’s new-look quartet were runners-up to Casey Scheidegger in the HDF Insurance Shoot-Out in Edmonton, edged out 6-5 in the final.
Second place was an encouraging way to get the season underway but Muirhead was frustrated she didn’t take her last stone chance to make it first.
“Disappointing finish, but very happy with the week,” reflected Muirhead, who was 5-1 up at one point.
“We were in control this whole game, but unfortunately we weren’t able to finish, but there are a lot of positives we can take back this week.”
On the draw for the win in the final end, she said: “I knew it wasn’t heavy out of my hand, and the ice was getting soft, I just didn’t think that soft. It was a shot I should have made.”
Team Muirhead were the only unbeaten team in the round-robin stages.
They have got another tournament in Canada this week.
