Fife solicitors Baird & Company has been acquired by Scottish law firm Boyd Legal.

The Glenrothes practice is the second acquisition made this year by the firm as it continues its growth plans.

To ensure that Baird & Company keeps its identity in Fife, it will rebrand to Baird Legal alongside Boyd Legal’s Kirkcaldy practice.

The deal brings John McAndrew and Carolyn Bean – who have been with Baird & Company for over 30 years – in as partners.

Baird & Company has now moved to New Law House in Glenrothes, with their main office at Baird Legal, Townsend Place, Kirkcaldy.

Managing director Diana Boyd said: “The essence of what we are about is ensuring that we are a large enough business to have a strong management team.

“This is increasingly necessary for firms to cope with the complexity of money laundering and all regulatory matters.”

Baird & Company acquisition ‘strengthens’ business

Baird & Company was founded in the 1960s by Donald Baird, a former town clerk in Cupar.

The acquisition is a move to future-proof Boyd Legal, expanding its team and enhancing its portfolio of legal services.

Ms Boyd said: “Our management team has played a critical role in the acquisition and will enable us to strengthen the business, while the legal team continues to deliver an excellent legal service.

“Smaller practices are finding it difficult to cope with carrying out legal work and at the same time managing all the regulatory issues.

“Increasing consolidation within the legal market is something we are certainly going to see more of.

“We are promising a seamless transition with the acquisition and importantly, want to reassure clients that our excellent service will continue as usual.”

Founded in 2004, Boyd Legal provides advice for individuals and businesses in property law, estate agency, equity release, private client, commercial law and lettings.

It has a team of 28 staff and lawyers across its offices Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy, Dundee, Perth, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness.
