6 of the cheapest gyms in Fife – but where are they and how much do they cost?

Find out where the cheapest gyms are across the Kingdom and the prices they are charging.

Going to the gym can be great for your physical and mental health – and for some, a trip to the gym is a staple part of the day or week.

But with the cost-of-living crisis continuing to bite, many people are being forced to cut back on subscriptions they can no longer afford.

It can be tough having to think of parting with your gym membership.

But there are some leisure facilities which are more affordable than you might think.

We’ve compiled a list of the cheapest gyms across Fife – starting at just £14.99 and some with no joining fee.

So this means you can cut back on gym spending if you need to – but don’t have to stop going altogether.

1. Pure Gym

Pure Gym has facilities in Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy.

Opening times

Both gyms are open 24/7.

Facilities

The Dunfermline gym has more than 220 bits of kit, including leg press machines, treadmills and spin bikes.

There are also over 50 classes to choose from including strength, cycling, bootcamp and yoga.

In Kirkcaldy similar facilities are available, including cardio and resistance machines, free weights, a functional area as well as classes.

Prices

Memberships for the Kirkcaldy gym start at £18.99 a month for off-peak access.

The standard membership is £28.99.

It allows you to use the gym any time of day, access all classes and book them eight days in advance.

Their plus membership is £35.99.

This membership allows you access to Pure Gyms across the UK, as well as booking classes two weeks in advance and freezing your membership anytime.

The Dunfermline gym off-peak membership is £17.99 and standard membership is £23.99 a month.

The plus membership is £30.99 a month.

There is also a £15 joining fee.

You can get a day pass for £7.99.

2.Balbirnie Fitness Centre

Balbirnie Fitness Centre in Glenrothes became a gym in its current form in 1976 and has thrived since then.

It has produced many champions including powerlifting common wealth record holders and champion body builders.

Opening times

Monday to Thursday: 6am to 10pm

Friday: 6am to 9pm

Saturday: 8am to 5pm

Sunday: 8am to 7pm

Facilities

The facility has four weight training areas with a huge selection of weights and fitness equipment. There is also a dedicated dumbbell, Olympic bench and deadlift area.

Upstairs there is a cardio area featuring a broad selection of equipment and an additional 16 spin bikes.

The gym also has a ‘lift room’ with eight power racks, each equipped with Eleiko bars and weights. This room also holds group training sessions, which are varied from HIIT, to weight training, kettlebells, yoga and circuits.

The membership is £22 per month by direct debit, or £199 upfront for a 12 month membership.

3. Gym Group

The Gym Group in Glenrothes opened in December 2022.

Opening times

It is open 24 hours, seven days a week.

Facilities

It offers a free weights area, spacious functional training zones, and a wide range of equipment for cardio and strength training.

Classes include: Legs, bums and tums, strength, circuits, yoga and step.

Prices

The gym has three types of membership: Off peak, Standard and Ultimate.

The Off peak membership is from £14.99 a month, Standard and Ultimate are from £22.99. These all have a £15 joining fee.

The Ultimate membership gets you into other Gym Group gyms, access to free workouts and plans, as well as fitness and body composition tracking.

4. Arena Gym

Arena Gym was originally located in Mitchelston Industrial Estate, Kirkcaldy. It was based there for five years before moving to its current base in the town’s Victoria Road in July 2022.

Opening times

Monday to Friday: 6am to 9:45pm.

Saturday to Sunday: 9am to 5pm.

Facilities

The Fife gym has an extensive weights area with dumbbells up to 60kg, as well as cardio machines including treadmills, rowing machines, stair-masters and ellipticals.

There are climbing ropes and even a 3D body scanner to track your weight loss and body composition progress.

Classes include: Zumba, kettlebells, spin and circuits.

Prices

The Ultimate Gym Only membership costs £25 per month and will get you access to the gym and equipment, an initial health consultation and personalised workout program.

For £29 per month, you’ll also get access to classes and the sauna – there is one for men and one for women.

You can get a day pass for £7.

5. Gym 64

You can find Gym 64 in Dunfermline, Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy.

Opening times

Monday to Friday: 5am to 11pm.

Saturday: 5am to 8pm.

Sunday: 8am to 8pm.

Facilities

The three gyms have a variety of equipment, including large weights areas, spin bikes, treadmills, ellipticals and SkiErgs.

Classes include body combat, body pump, yoga, spin, kettlebells, functional fitness, circuits and hot Pilates.

There is a sauna and steam room in each of the three gyms, which is free to use for Corporate and Elite members.

Sunbeds and a Fit3D body scanner are also available to use for an additional fee.

Prices

There are four types of membership: Intro, Corporate, Pro and Elite.

The Intro membership starts at £23.99 per month for off-peak access only. This allows you to attend one Gym 64 gym of your choice and take part in Les Mills classes.

The Corporate membership is also £33.99 a month. It gives access to all three gyms across Fife, Les Mills classes, yoga and Pilates classes. You can book classes five days in advance.

The Pro membership is £33.99 per month.

This gives access to one Gym 64 gym, Les Mills classes, yoga and Pilates. You can book classes five days in advance.

An Elite membership is £43.99 a month.

It offers access to all branches, classes including hot yoga and hot Pilates and you can book classes seven days in advance.

When paying, you’re asked to pay for the first and last month of your membership, as there is no contract.

6. Taylor Made Gym & Fitness

Another one of the cheapest gyms in Fife is Taylor Made Gym & Fitness in Leven.

Opening times

Monday to Friday: 6am to 9pm.

Saturday to Sunday:  10am to 3pm.

Facilities

The gym has large weights and cardio sections. The cardio area features treadmills, cross trainers and rowing machines.

Prices

Memberships are £28 per month, which will gain you full access to the gym.

Junior and OAP memberships are £18 per month and you can get a day pass for £5.

The gym also works with personal trainers, who you can train with for additional fees.
