Top Scottish chef Nick Nairn will promote Scottish game’s journey from hill to plate at a food festival in Angus this August.
Also appearing at the Taste Angus Food and Drink Festival at Glamis Castle will be up and coming Arbroath chefs Jamie Scott, who was BBC Masterchef: The Professionals champion in 2014, and Young Scottish Chef of the Year Adam Newth.
Nick will cook local grouse and game sourced from the heathered glens of Angus in a food demonstration.
He will also appear on the stand of the Angus Glens Moorland Group, where he will promote the use of game with the help of the group’s gamekeepers.
A keen shot himself, Nick and the gamekeepers will explain how responsible moorland stewardship helps produce a sustainable harvest of seasonal game each year from the region.
Lianne MacLennan, co-ordinator of the Angus Glens Moorland Group said: “It will be a great opportunity to explain how the beautiful game meat from the area is reared for the larder.
“As well as providing food for the table, it also brings tourists from all over the world and a vital economic spin-off for the glen communities.
“What better than to have Nick with us to help explain how meat such as grouse, rabbit and venison finally arrive at the kitchen table from the hills of Angus.”
Other chefs giving cooking demonstrations are BBC Masterchef: The Professionals runner-up Brian Mcleish, Perth-based cook Praveen Kumar and two time Great British Menu finalist Jacqueline O’Donnell, who presents STV’s Jak and Eddie’s Scottish Kitchen.
During the two-day festival there will be a host of children’s activities, clay pigeon shooting, falconry and live music.
There will be an opportunity for people to buy the region’s best food and drink. Among the offerings from local artisan suppliers will be ales, gins, smokies and oysters, with pop-up restaurants, barbecues and hog roasts catering for diverse tastes.
Early bird tickets for the event, which takes place on August 20 and 21, are on sale now and are available until July 31.
