Angus villagers have laid an early marker down to a developer over what they say are unwelcome new housing plans.
Tannadice residents turned out in force to hear Scotia Homes outline their bid to build on farmland on the edge of the village.
The Aberdeenshire company is looking at a site on the west site of Tannadice, between the village boundary and the road leading to Memus and Cortachy.
It overlooks the River South Esk as it enters the village.
Scotia representatives wanted to gauge early opinion at a meeting of Kirriemuir Landward East Community Council.
But they faced a frosty reception from locals over the plan for around 15 homes.
Large turnout
Community council chairman Ivan Laird said: “There were around 50 people at the meeting.
“That is as big a turnout that I’ve seen at our community council.
“There was a very strong feeling in the hall – and absolutely no support for it.”
“The general view is that this site is totally unsuitable,” Mr Laird added.
“It’s on prime agricultural land and is outside the village boundary.
“It’s also on a steep slope leading down to a narrow main road into Tannadice so there are concerns about traffic and flooding run-off.
“The consensus of the meeting was that everyone was very much opposed to it.
“No-one spoke about it being an asset to the village at all.
“There are a lot of concerns so we will have to wait and see what happens next.”
Bid yet to be lodged
Scotia Homes has not yet lodged a formal planning application
The firm say the community council meeting was a worthwhile exercise.
A spokesperson said: “We welcomed the opportunity to discuss proposals for new homes in Tannadice at last week’s Kirriemuir Landward East Community Council meeting, and appreciated the comments and key points that were raised from local residents.
“We found the comments to be constructive and we look forward to carrying out further technical investigations to clarify certain matters and to allow further progress to be made.”
