Arbroath lifeboats were launched in the early hours of Saturday in connection with an alarm call centred around the town cliffs.
Both the all weather and inshore craft from the town station were launched just after 4am as part of a joint operation involving RNLI, Coastguard and Police Scotland.
It is understood the incident arose over reported concerns for a local male.
Police and coastguard personnel were involved in the on shore element of the incident, around the cliffs near Victoria Park.
The incident was brought to a conclusion by 6am when the male was traced safe and well.
