A Dundee man will stand trial accused of killing a man in Leven by driving carelessly.
A September 12 trial has been fixed for Chun Yuen.
The 24-year-old faces allegations he caused the death of Robert Walker,59, in Leven by driving without due care or attention.
Yuen, of Arthurstone Terrace in Dundee, is alleged to have been driving on the A915 Largo Road near the B927 Cupar Road on March 1 in 2020 at excessive speed and failing to maintain proper observation.
It is alleged he failed to react to the evasive action taken by the car in front of his own Skoda and failed to see Mr Walker, who was lying on the road.
Yuen is charged with colliding with the pedestrian and causing severe injuries, which eventually killed him.
Yuen denies the charge.
Tributes were paid to “loving father, brother and uncle” Mr Walker and relatives spoke of their “total shock” in the wake of his death.
Rapist jailed
Fife bodybuilder Craig Mackay was jailed for at least five years and placed on a lifelong restriction order. The 33-year-old from Methil was found guilty of four rapes on two women after a high court trial.
Former MSP on trial
Former SNP MP Natalie McGarry is on trial accused of embezzling more than £25,000 from two Scottish independence organisations.
McGarry, from Fife, who represented Glasgow East, allegedly embezzled the cash between April 2013 and August 2015.
The 40-year-old, of the city’s Clarkston, denies the charges at Glasgow Sheriff Court and the trial could last up to six weeks.
The charge claims McGarry embezzled £21,000 while Treasurer for Women for Independence between April 26 2013 and November 30 2015.
It is alleged she transferred cash made from fundraising events into her own personal accounts and failed to send the donations intended for Perth and Kinross food bank and the charity Positive Prisons Positive Futures.
She then allegedly used cheques to deposit money into her accounts.
The second charge states McGarry embezzled £4,661 between April 9, 2014 and August 10, 2015.
It is alleged while McGarry was Treasurer, Secretary and Convenor of Glasgow Regional Association of the SNP, she used cheques drawn from their bank account to pay expenses not incurred by the group.
McGarry is claimed to have retained reimbursements intended to settle expenses to which she was not entitled.
The charge goes on to say McGarry used cheques and money from donations to the organisation to deposit money to her own accounts.
The jury were told the prosecution, lead by procurator fiscal Alastair Mitchell, would lead evidence that McGarry transferred funds from Women for Independence to the total of £7,816.46 into her own account between April 26,, 2013 and November 30, 2015.
And the court was told that between February 1, 2014 and June 17, 2014, she set up an online crowdfunding campaign to raise money for Yes Glasgow and transferred £3891.84 collected into her own bank account for her own use.
The trial continues before sheriff Hughes.
Cleared despite ‘reprehensible’ act
Former SNP advisor and part-time drag act Nathan Sparling walked free from court despite behaviour branded “reprehensible” by a sheriff. Sparling was found not guilty of a crime under the Sexual Offences Act after being accused of taking illicit naked pictures of a passed-out friend. A sheriff found he had taken the images but said the evidence had not reached the threshold to breach the Act.
