Monday court round-up — Buckie teen back in trouble

A motorist drove through a Perth neighbourhood while nearly six times the legal alcohol limit.

Gary McDougall appeared at the city’s sheriff court and admitted drink-driving in a Volkswagen Golf in Florence Place.

Prosecutors said the alcohol level in the 40-year-old’s system was 126 mics per 100 ml of breath, the legal limit being 22 mics.

The court heard McDougall, of Scott Street, Perth, had long-standing difficulties with alcohol.

Sheriff Francis Gill told McDougall: “This is an extremely high reading, so I am going to have to defer this matter for reports.”

Sentence was deferred until June 22.

McDougall was handed an interim driving ban.

Dog saved

Antonius Pruijsten from Fife told of his relief after a sheriff ruled his dog did not have to be destroyed, despite it having been dangerously out of control and biting a man and another pet in Cowdenbeath. He had a double reason for relief as he was not banned from keeping dogs either, meaning he could keep the puppy left by his late wife after she died in December.

Back in trouble

A Fife teenager who has just been released from prison after ambushing children with a Buckfast bottle has admitted more public disorder.

Liam Meikle, of Davidson Place in Glenrothes, was released from HMP Polmont on March 26 under supervision but has admitted acting threateningly before he went into custody.

The 18-year-old pled guilty to acting aggressively, shouting, swearing and making threats of violence at an address in Glenrothes’s Colliston Avenue on October 23 in 2019.

At Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, Shthecourier.co.uk/…/buckfast-bottle-thug-fifeeriff Alison McKay deferred sentencing until June 23 for reports.

Meikle was previously jailed for two years after stamping on the head of one teenager and smashing a bottle across the heads of two others at Balbirnie Park as part of an “ambush.”

Samurai sword siege

Rattray man Kenneth Douglas, 39 has been jailed for two years. Perth Sheriff Court heard how he was seen swinging a samurai sword around in the town, before kicking off a tense police siege at is home address.

Abuser jailed

A domestic abuser who attacked his partner in Dundee has been locked up for a year.

HMP Perth inmate Michael Watson appeared by video link at Dundee Sheriff Court to be sentenced.

On October 17, he attacked his partner at a home in Lilybank Avenue by seizing her on the body, placing both hands around her neck and pushing her to the floor.

He previously admitted the attack and was remanded in custody.

His solicitor Larry Flynn said: “It is his intention to reconcile with the complainer.”

Sheriff Alastair Carmichael noted the “high risk” that Watson, 52, presents and jailed him for a year.

His sentence was backdated to October when he was remanded and Watson will be under supervised release for six months after he is liberated.

In that time, he must declare all friendships and relationships with anybody to his supervisor.

Prisoner transport firm in the dock

Prisoner transport firm GEOamey faces a contempt hearing at Forfar Sheriff Court. The unusual measure was taken after a sheriff and fiscal lost patience with the company -tasked with transporting prisoners around the country, including to court – when an shoplifter’s trial was twice delayed because she had not been brought in time.

Homophobic abuse at police

A Perth teenager has admitted shouting homophobic abuse at police officers during a city centre flare-up.

Rogan Telford clashed with constables in South Street on December 11, last year.

Perth Sheriff Court heard the 19-year-old behaved in a threatening or abusive manner, likely to cause fear or alarm.

Telford shouted, swore and uttered threats of violence towards officers. He also directed homophobic remarks at them.

The teenager has further admitted restricting, obstructing or hindering three officers, and struggling violently with them.

Fiscal depute David Currie said Telford, of Hermitage Drive, Perth, had pled guilty by letter.

Sheriff Francis Gill deferred sentence until June 8 for the accused’s personal appearance.
