Friday court round-up — Chocolate fountain firm theft charge and a boastful drunk

A woman has appeared in court accused of embezzling tens of thousands of pounds from a luxury chocolate fountain firm.

Elaine McCall is alleged to have taken £23,844 from Fife-based Sephra Europe between March 2019 and March 2020.

The 51-year-old of Spencerfield Road, Inverkeithing entered no plea at Dunfermline Sheriff Court and the case was continued until January.

Blame game rejected

A man who tried to blame his paedophile identical brother for downloading child abuse images has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register after jurors rejected the excuse.

Robert Drummond was found guilty despite trying to pin the crime on Ryan Drummond, who was convicted of similar offences in January.

Brothers Robert (left) and Ryan Drummond blamed each other during separate court cases.

A night in prison

Robert Robertson from Dundee has been given 243 hours unpaid work after spending a night in prison for failing to show up to a sentencing hearing.

The 60-year-old, of Ancrum Place, admitted two instances of threatening and abusive behaviour — one instance involving his ex-wife — on dates last year.

On April 18 2021 police investigating a noise complaint had to force their way into his house after he refused to open the door or turn down his music, which had reportedly been blaring at 4am.

On January 29, he struggled with his ex-wife and took her bank card from her.

He was given a three-year non-harassment order to protect her

He had earlier failed to appear for a sentencing at Dundee Sheriff Court and was taken to Perth Prison for the night after handing himself in at a police station.

Car park firebug

A drunken firebug destroyed 21 ticket machines in a £130,000 blaze at a Perth city centre car park. William Black staggered into the Canal Street multi-storey and set fire to a parked council van containing the brand-new machines.

The fire at Canal Street car park destroyed new council ticket machines.

Boastful drunk

An Angus drunk who was found lying in a field by police told a female constable: “I’ve got a 10-inch c**k.”

Officers were near East Mill Road in Brechin on June 22 last year after receiving about  under-the-influence George McPhee.

When paramedics arrived, he became agitated.

While still lying on the ground, McPhee,36, made numerous crude remarks to the female officer, about himself and her.

When a male constable tried to assist McPhee, of Nether Careston near Brechin, he kicked him on the body.

He pled guilty to police assault and communicating indecently at Forfar Sheriff Court and was placed on the Sex Offenders Register.

Sheriff Derek Reekie ordered reports and deferred sentencing until February.

‘Last straw for worker’

A ScotRail worker driven to distraction by a trouble-making teenage gang “lost it” and assaulted a 15-year-old girl while on duty at Inverkeithing train station. Charles Algeo, 52, punched the teenager, who had initially kicked out at him. He was fined.

Charles Algeo lost his job with ScotRail.

Spitting mad

A police officer was forced to take medication to prevent HIV after being spat at by a drunken man.

Kerr McCarron, 31, also threatened to kill the officer and his children.

Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard officers had been called after McCarron had made his way into an unlocked house and trashed the property.

He was found nearby, bleeding and began abusing the officers, using racist slurs and telling him “I’m going to bomb your house”.

He then spat blood into the face and mouth of the officer and continued to abuse him, threatening to kill his children and stating: “I’m not scared to go to jail for murdering you all.”

The officer was later given hepatitis B and C vaccinations and drugs to combat HIV.

Solicitor Zander Flett said McCarron, a prisoner at Glenochil, had consumed alcohol and Valium only had a vague recollection of events.

He admitted police assault, damaging property at an address in Lumphinnans on October 6 and behaving in a threatening and abusive manner at the town’s High Street and while on the way to Dunfermline police station, and to assaulting the police officer.

Sentence was deferred for reports.
