Iconic heavy metal band Iron Maiden have thrown their support behind a new feature film about the group’s surprise Dundee gig 40 years ago.

Schemers, which tells the real-life story of an inexperienced music promoter’s bid to bring big-name bands to the city, will hit UK cinema screens on September 25.

The pioneering English rockers, who have now sold over 100 million albums worldwide, tweeted a link to the film’s trailer.

Formed in 1975, the band was still in its infancy when they performed at the city’s Caird Hall in 1980.

An exclusive screening will be held at the DCA in Dundee on September 21 featuring a Q&A session with the film’s director Dave Mclean, whose real-life story the film is based on.

It was shot in and around Dundee and stars Conor Berry as Mclean as well as Sean Connor and Grant Robert Keelan.
