Potential presidents and marauding martians are wanted to take part in an alien invasion of Dundee later this year.
Ciaran O’Sullivan is hosting the city’s first Watch The Skies event, which he describes as involving a model UN with extra-terrestrials.
Designed by Jim Wallman, players need to show high level diplomacy skills to achieve national and global objectives as alien ships float overhead.
Participants take on the roles of scientists, military chiefs, heads of state and aliens in the game, all seeking to emerge victorious at the end of the day.
Around 50 people are expected to take part in the seven-hour-long event, with places still available for those eager to give it a go.
Ciaran, who has attended similar events around the country, said he was looking forward to bringing the game to Dundee.
“We ran one in Edinburgh in 2013 but this will be bigger than that and we are now getting a recurring player base.
“Dundee is a gaming city so it’s great to have one here, and hopefully we can have more in the future.
“Everyone is playing a part within a country – the generals command the army, the diplomats negotiate in the UN, the scientists carry out research.
“Meanwhile the aliens are kept totally separate. No one knows what the aliens are doing.
“Every country will have things it knows and has its own objectives and goals. Everyone has the things they will be wanting to do. It attracts a mix of gamers and people interested in politics which is really good.”
There are also players who take on the role of the press corps who run a live Twitter feed with updates from the different teams and presidents who head up their nations.
Ciaran also believes the game is suitable for anyone, with no previous experience of role-playing games required.
And for those who want to go the extra mile, Ciaran suggests dressing as the character to give an extra level of authenticity.
Players from as far away as Germany have already signed up for the special event, which takes place on October 8 at The Friary.
Spaces can be reserved on Eventbrite or through the Watch the Skies Dundee Facebook page.
