Firefighters battled a car blaze at Dundee’s Winterfest Christmas attraction on Monday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to Slessor Gardens to tackle the fire, next to the festive markets, which opened on Saturday.
Two fire appliances attended the blaze at around 3.54pm.
Margherita Berti, 25, shot a video of the blaze.
She was near the waterfront when she heard an alarm warning her of the fire.
‘I could see smoke in the air’
She said: “I was walking around the V&A and I heard an alarm go off so I turned around and could see smoke in the air.”
“I thought it was coming from the Christmas market but as I got closer I saw it was a car next to the Christmas market.
“I spoke to a woman who said two people who worked at the market smelt the smoke and then realised the car was on fire.
“The firemen got there really quickly, in about five minutes.
“Security are just advising people to exit from the entrance instead of the exit now so that they don’t go near the car.”
Firefighters tackled the blaze for just over 10 minutes until they received the stop message at around 4.06pm.
‘We could see the flames coming up’
One eyewitness added: “All I saw was the car smoking when I walked by.
“There were firefighters going about as well, but I just saw the aftermath.”
Another said: “I was inside and we could see the flames coming up, that was it.
“That must have been at about 4pm.”
Winterfest opened on Saturday, a day later than planned, due to Storm Arwen.
Attractions include an ice rink, big wheel and Christmas market.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received report of a car on fire on South Crichton Street in Dundee around 3.55pm on Monday November 29, 2021.
“No-one was injured and the fire service are in attendance.”
A Winterfest spokesperson confirmed that the fire was not related to the event, however staff did attempt to help the owner of the burning vehicle.
