Much-loved Dundee icon Oor Wullie — in all his guises — is the star of the show at an exclusive exhibition that has opened in the city.

And among the Wullies on show at the Overgate Shopping Centre is a never-before-seen sculpture of the forever young cheeky chappy.

The new model, signed by Scottish stars including Gerry Cinnamon and Calvin Harris, along with dozens of others, is part of the Oor Wullie sculpture exhibition.

Sisters Summer, nine, and Erica Duke, four, with the Calvin Harris and Gerry Cinnamon-signed Oor Wullie sculpture from the last-ever T in the Park.

It was launched on Thursday by Archie and Wullie’s Braw Bucket Bash, a new project by the children’s charity The Archie Foundation.

It will showcase a number of the sculptures, originally customised by leading artists for the 2019 Big Bucket Trail which saw 200 Wullie models displayed across the city and rose £1.29m.

Never-before-seen Wullie

The new Wullie was originally placed within the artist village at the last-ever T in the Park in 2016.

The sculpture has been signed and drawn on by big names including Scottish dance superstar Calvin Harris, Gerry Cinnamon, Les McKeown of The Bay City Rollers and many more.

It will go up for auction on The Archie Foundation website once it leaves the Overgate, raising more vital funds for the charity.

Unmissable experience

Metta Ramsay, community manager of Overgate said: “Overgate is delighted to be welcoming Archie and Wullie’s Braw Bucket Bash to the centre.

“Seeing so many of the sculptures together again, and having the chance to appreciate the detail and artistry of each one, really is an unmissable experience.

“We are particularly thrilled to be revealing the Calvin Harris-signed Oor Wullie sculpture.”

Oher popular Wullies making an appearance at the display include Oor Lilie, Big Hearted Wullie, Haud Yer Wheest Wullie, Technicolour Dream, and Oor Freddie.

The exhibition – free and open for all to enjoy – will take place in Overgate’s ‘Gather’ space until Sunday July 24. Opening times are 10am until 5pm daily.

A number of fundraising activities by The Archie Foundation to help support children in Tayside will also be in place, including an Oor Wullie and Archie merchandise shop.
