A convicted child rapist was caught by paedophile hunters after he sent a video of himself having sex to what he thought was a 12-year-old girl.
Dean McKinney, who was jailed in 2012 for raping a teenager, pestered the “child” for nude pictures.
The 30-year-old, who served two-and-half-years of a five year sentence, returned to the dock and admitted sending gross and indecent messages to an account in the name of Amber via WhatsApp last August.
Amber, who was presented online as a 12-year-old girl, was actually operated by a self-appointed paedophile hunter Angela McAllister.
McKinney, 30, looked surprised after he was remanded in custody until sentencing later this year.
‘I knew you were going to turn up’
The sex offender, who now must let police check his computer and mobile phone, said he felt stupid after being confronted by the vigilante group.
Depute fiscal Lora Apostolova told Dundee Sheriff Court: “The accused, who was unemployed at the time, sent a video of himself having sex with a women via WhatsApp.
“At around 11.37pm he sent a message asking the child if she had private pics.
“The decoy responded saying they would be embarrassed.
“He continued to ask for pictures.”
The following day, the decoy operator attended at McKinney’s home in Benvie Road.
McKinney told him: “I knew you were going to turn up.”
He added he felt “really bad”.
Ms Apostolova said:Â “The accused is on the sex offender’s register.
“He said he does not usually message kids.”
Attacked sleeping victim
Defence solicitor Jim Laverty, in mitigation, said: “He is under no doubt he will deserve a custodial sentence for this matter.”
Sheriff David Hall deferred sentence until September 29, and remanded McKinney in custody.
McKinney was convicted in 2012 of the rape of a child following a trial at the High Court Aberdeen.
He targeted his sleeping victim at a house in Dundee.
He also attacked a former partner in 2018, just months after his sentence expired.
McKinney admitted sending gross and obscene messages to a child who had not attained the age of 13, who was in fact a decoy, and forced them to look at a sexual image and requested naked pictures of a child on August 13 and 14 2021.
