One of Scotland’s most popular bands has been added to the line-up of new Dundee festival Carnival 56.

The Fratellis will join Mark Ronson, Hot Chip, Rudimental, Clean Bandit and dozens of others at the Camperdown Park festival, which will take place on August 12 and 13.

The Fratellis released their debut album Costello Music in 2006 and are best known for their song Chelsea Dagger.

Costello Music spent an amazing 83 weeks in the Top 100.

Festival director Craig Blyth said: “The Fratellis are guaranteed to have Camperdown rocking this summer.

“the band are brilliant live and we’re delighted to have Jon, Barry and Mince join us as special guests.

“They’ll get a massive response when they hit Dundee in August and thousands of fans are guaranteed to create one of the summer’s biggest singalong moments.”

The festival organisers also revealed that Dundee urban craft brewery 71 Brewing will officially sponsor the two-day festival.

The company launched its first beer, 71 Lager, in January.

Mr Blyth said: “We are delighted to announce the headline partnership with 71 Brewing for Carnival 56 and are particularly pleased to be offering across the weekend the locally -brewed 71 lager as the official lager of the festival.

“This is a quality produce, conceived and produced in Dundee.

“This year marks the beginning of an exciting journey for both of us and we look forward to the long-term shared experience ahead.”

Duncan Alexander, founder of 71 Brewing, said: “Carnival 56 will be one of Scotland’s biggest music festivals. We have an incredible line-up for the first year.

“It will definitely put extra swagger in the Dundonian step.”

The festival will be largest open-air music event in Dundee since Radio 1’s Big Weekend in 2006, which also featured The Fratellis in the line-up.

Around 15,000 people are expected to attend Carnival 56 each day and Mr Blyth has said he hopes the event becomes a fixture on the festival calendar.

Tickets went on sale on Monday after 2,000 pre-registration briefs were snapped up on Friday, February 24.
