Police studying CCTV in hunt for Charleston house robber

The robbery took place on Craigowan Road in Charleston on Wednesday.
The robbery took place on Craigowan Road in Charleston on Wednesday.

Police are studying CCTV footage in the hunt for a hooded man who robbed a house in Charleston.

On Wednesday, a 52-year-old man was robbed at 9am in broad daylight in Craigowan Road.

The culprit threatened the man with a weapon before snatching a three-figure sum of money.

And now, having made extensive door-to-door inquiries, officers are trawling over CCTV footage from the nearby Charleston Supersaver & Post Office in an effort to identify the man.

He is described as being five foot eleven inches tall, stocky, wearing a grey hooded top, with the hood up and a brown tammy hat underneath.

Oddly, the man is believed to have been wearing grey coloured jogging bottoms which were inside-out.

Police said the the victim was left badly shaken but unhurt in the incident.

Neighbour Martin Anderson, who has lived in the area since 1991, said it was just the latest incident to hit the street.

“There’s always something going on in Craigowan Road; it’s quite bad this area,” he said.

“Police dogs are often here sniffing about trying to find drugs. You hear noise at night all the time so I just don’t bother looking out to see what’s going on.

“Only just the other day someone torched the wheelie bin out the front of my block.

“Some things have improved in the area since I moved here but at the same time, incidents to do with drugs have only got worse.”

A Police spokesperson said: “Police Scotland is appealing for information after a 52 year old man was robbed within a house in Craigowan Road, Dundee yesterday at 9am.

“A review of CCTV and door to door inquiries are being carried out.

“Anyone with any information that may be useful should contact Tayside Division on 101 quoting CR/9770/17 or speak to any police officer.

“Alternatively information can be passed anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Witnesses who were on the street shortly after the robbery took place on Wednesday said they saw up to 10 police cars with officers also on foot in the hunt for the suspect.
