V&A Dundee is to host a new after-hours event recreating the glamour of life on-board the largest moving objects ever designed.
Nautical but Nice, the first of the museum’s Tay Late events, will feature an evening of museum-wide music, performances and hands-on making activities.
Taking place on Friday October 26, the night will see music from Nicole & The Backup Crew and Tenement Jazz Band, as well as a special one-off ‘grande descente’ staircase performance from drag prince Alfie Ordinary.
Also featuring will be drop-in sailor’s knot bracelet workshops led by designers Kirsten Manzi and Syrah Jay and a cabaret set from The Onion Club.
Drinks will be served in V&A Dundee’s vast main hall as the museum pays homage to the luxurious salons featured in the current exhibition Ocean Liners: Speed and Style.
Joanna Mawdsley, head of learning at V&A Dundee, said the evening events will take inspiration from the museum’s sister institution in London.
She said: “Friday Lates have been a huge success at V&A South Kensington and it was important for us to create our own unique events that reimagine the museum space and invite people to be curious and enjoy the museum after-hours.
“Our very first Tay Late, Nautical but Nice, has been inspired by the golden-age of ocean travel and the playful and sometimes surprising entertainment on-board the ships at the centre of our opening exhibition, Ocean Liners: Speed and Style.”
The event, which runs from 7pm to 10pm, is 18 or over. Tickets are on sale.
