Emergency workers were called to tackle an early morning blaze in Dundee on Saturday.

Fire crews were mobilised at around 7.30am following reports of a fire at a “dwelling” at The Brae in Auchterhouse.

Three fire appliances were sent to tackle the flames and firefighters were still at the scene well into Sunday afternoon working to “dampen down the remaining hot spots”.

The road leading up to the property, which carries on to the Quad Nation premises at Burnhead Farm, was closed for most of Saturday.

Police Scotland were also in attendance and set up a corden outside the home. A fire investigation team was at the property on Sunday afternoon but the road has now reopened to traffic.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed four pumps, one jet and a hose reel were sent to tackle the blaze but said this was reduced down to three pumps by the early afternoon.

She also confirmed engineers from energy firm SSE had isolated power while efforts to eliminate the flames continued.

One local resident spoke of hearing the sirens approaching early on Saturday morning while he was still in bed.

He said: “I heard them coming up the hill but at that stage I had no idea what it was. The police have been around all morning as well.

“There is a lot of white smoking still coming out of it but it looks like everything is out now. It’s a bit frightening really. I just hope everyone is okay.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed no casualties were reported.
