Anstruther lifeboat launched to tow broken down fishing boat

The Anstruther lifeboat crew was scrambled this morning to rescue a broken down fishing boat.

The alarm was raised just after 3.30am after reports that a vessel with two crew members on board was in trouble near Ruddons Point, at Shell Bay.

The lifeboat arrived on the scene and towed the vessel back to Pittenweem.

It was the second rescue mission within 12 hours for the volunteer crew, having been scrambled to assist people trapped on the Elie chainwalk on Tuesday afternoon.

Coxswain Michael Bruce said: “We arrived on scene to find the vessel skipper was safely at anchor and happy to see the lifeboat arrive.

“Another successful resolution and the second shout in less than 12 hours.

“We have a visiting mechanic, Adrian from Aldeburgh, this week and he has now had two shouts in 12 hours compared to five in total back home this year.”
