A pair of Angus primaries have an extra spring in their step after winning prestigious national sporting recognition.
Inverkeilor and Maisondieu have each received the sportscotland gold school sport award for innovation and achievement in delivering physical education and extra-curricular sport.
The award is a national initiative designed to encourage schools to continuously improve in physical education and sport.
It also encourages sporting links between schools and the communities around them.
At present there are 158 gold schools, 281 silver and 92 bronze across Scotland.
Praising the Angus successes, sportscotland chief executive Stewart Harris said: “I would like to congratulate all of the staff and pupils at Inverkeilor and Maisondieu for putting physical education and sport at the heart of their school and local community.
“They should all be extremely proud of this fantastic achievement.
“At sportscotland we’re building a world-class sporting system for everyone, and a crucial part of that is putting young people at the centre of our efforts.
“Working with our partners in local authorities and governing bodies of sport, we are creating closer links between physical education, school sport and club sport, which benefits young people by providing more and better opportunities to take part in sport.”
Angus children and learning convener, Cllr Sheena Welsh said: “It’s an honour for Inverkeilor and Maisondieu to be awarded the sportscotland gold school sport award.
“The staff, parents and local volunteers work incredibly hard to deliver a range of opportunities for our young people and engage with a wide range of community partners to do so.
“We believe that physical education, physical activity and school sport is an important part of school curriculum and school life.
“These experiences and opportunities will only stand the pupils in good stead as they develop through school and into adulthood.”
To achieve a bronze or silver sportscotland award, schools self-assess their current practice. An extensive external assessment is also carried out by an independent panel of experts to gain gold.
