A man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing a woman before repeatedly plunging the knife in himself at a wallpaper shop in West Pitkerro on Wednesday evening.
Police arrived in huge numbers at Select wallpaper store just before 5pm alongside ambulance crews, following the suspected stabbing in the industrial retail park.
Both the man, aged 54, and the woman, whose age and name is still unknown, were taken to Ninewells following the incident.
It is understood that their injuries, although serious, are not life threatening.
Police stressed this incident was an isolated one and had been contained.
He has since been arrested.
Charges have not been brought against anyone but this is understood to be subject to change as the investigation progresses.
Two ambulance crews and as many as eight police cars raced to the unit following reports of a “serious assault”.
Emergency services arrived on the scene within five minutes following the first call being answered.
Select Wallpaper, on Ainslie Street, remained closed to the public on Thursday morning while police carried out their investigation.
Officers maintained a cordon at the front of the store, advising members of the public to keep away from the possible crime scene.
Following the Wednesday attack, police marked off and searched a public path close to the Sainsbury’s supermarket, a move believed to be part of the ongoing investigation.
A police spokesperson said: “Police Scotland can confirm that officers attended at a retail premises within the West Pitkerro Industrial Estate in Dundee following a report of a serious assault.
“The incident was reported to police at 4.50pm on Wednesday August 2.
“A 54-year-old man and a woman were taken to Ninewells Hospital with serious but not believed to be life threatening injuries.
“Inquiries are ongoing.”
A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 4.51pm on Wednesday to attend an incident at an address on Ainslie Street.
“We dispatched two ambulances and the first unit arrived on the scene at 4.56pm.
“Two crews travelled to Ninewells hospital.”
